Tagging Bull Sharks
Iguana Divers supports conservation efforts by CREMA – Centro Rescate de Especies Marinas Amenazadas. In this video we join researcher Elpis Joan while she tags baby Bull Sharks. Its a bit rough to watch as we need to measure them, insert an acoustic tag with a small surgery, insert a visual tag by its dorsal fin and take a small tissue sample for future DNA analysis. It seems very invasive but Bull Sharks are a very tough and the information collected is fundamental for the long-term conservation of the species. We are happy to report that on this trip we collected data from a receiver of a young bull tagged by Elpis three years ago.
