On December 3rd, 2017 the Endangered Marine Species Rescue Center (CREMA) celebrated the San Miguel sea turtle nesting beach conservation project’s 20th anniversary by holding a birthday festival attended by over 200 local residents. The event was held in conjunction with a fundraiser for the Javilla elementary school.

Project founders, volunteers, research assistants, and local coordinators from neighboring communities (Costa de Oro, San Miguel, Bejuco, Corozalito) attended the event held at San Miguel’s community beach park. Staff from the ARA Project and the Jungle Butterfly Farm also lent a hand by organizing, along with CREMA, a variety of games and activities for the children in attendance.

Everyone who came out to support community based sea turtle conservation enjoyed an afternoon filled with music, great food, presentations, BINGO, kid’s games, and a beach soccer game at sunset.

CREMA thanks all in attendance for making the San Miguel project a reality for the last two decades.
